As usual at the ASA annual meeting, the program features a wealth of sessions on a multitude of topics. The 1996 Program Committee wants to extend a warm invitation to all participants to sample some of the many conference sessions related to this year's theme, Global Migration, American Cultures, and the State. The gray boxes in the Program Book mark a handful of sessions selected for their wide appeal and special thematic interest. Enjoy!

COMMITTEE ON SECONDARY SCHOOLS WORKSHOPS

The Committee on Secondary Schools will present a series of five workshops aimed at both secondary school practitioners of American Studies and also collegiate-level American Studies scholars interested in pedagogy and in strengthening ties between the two education levels. These sessions will be cross-over workshops that deal with issues of interest to both secondary and university faculty, in order to highlight the classroom issues we share in common, as well as to acknowledge our differences. These workshops should be of interest to ASA members because they are among the few places at our convention that provide us with a chance to have substantive discussions and debates about our curriculum design and teaching practices. Each of the workshops will take place in Benton A, on Saturday, November 2.

Please note that the Luncheon for Women in American Studies, 12:15 - 2:15 PM, Friday, November 1, requires a ticket. Early reservations are advised because tickets are available in limited quantities. No tickets will be sold after 5:00 PM, Thursday, October 31. COST: $15.00.
